JAMES STRAUSS, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MARIA ANGELES AYALA, PROVIDES THE ALBUM “WANDERLUST – SIGSMUND NEUKOMM: LA GRANDE TRAVERSÉE”
Cri du Chat Disques/Universal Music and flutist James Strauss launch this new CD dedicated to the Austrian composer Sigismund Neukomm (1778-1858). Titled “Sigismund Neukomm: WANDERLUST”, the CD was recorded in Vienna, Austria, and features readings from the original manuscripts of Neukomm’s flute and piano music.
Neukomm’s music was published in the 19th century by Artaria, Breitkopf & Härtel and Simrock, three of the most important music publishers of the time. His music has been played in the concert halls of Europe and South America. Neukomm’s music is characterized by its melodic invention, rhythmic vitality and harmonically fresh approach. A favorite disciple of Joseph Haydn, Neukomm lived in Rio de Janeiro between 1816 and 1821, a period in which he composed around 70 works.
AWARD-WINNING VIRTUOUS FLUIST JAMES STRAUSS AND PORTUGUESE SOPRANO INÊS SIMÕES IN NEW CLASSIC ALBUM
James Strauss and Inês Simões launch today the new CD “Poema” (Universal Music Group and Cri du Chat), with an innovative repertoire for flute and soprano that mixes their voices in simultaneously striking ways, ranging from French impressionism to the present day.
“Con flauto obbligato” used to be a regular feature of concerts and recordings by the great sopranos of old. If his programs had been as enterprising as this one they would not have so easily, even unintentionally, provoked the hateful term ‘canary breeder’.
JAMES STRAUSS RELEASES THE EP “STRAUSS & MORGEN”, WITH FEATURES BY CHRYSO MAKARIOU AND VASILIS TSIATSIANIS
On his new EP, Brazilian flutist virtuoso James Strauss pays tribute to German composer Richard Strauss with five new arrangements of his most famous songs (lieder). Alongside him in this project are Greek pianist and conductor Vasilis Tsiatsianis and Cypriot singer Chryso Makariou.
Richard Georg Strauss (1864-1949) was one of the leading German composers of the late Romantic and early modern periods. He is known for his operas, and his songs. Along with Gustav Mahler, he represents the late flowering of German Romanticism after Richard Wagner, when the pioneering subtleties of orchestration are combined with an advanced harmonic style.

JAMES STRAUSS RELEASES HIS HIGHLY AWAITED ALBUM, “LUX AETERNA”
James Strauss is clearly a remarkable virtuoso, with spectacular agility and an exceptionally sweet tone. This musical mastery is underpinned by his natural Latin charm, energy and wit. Today, the award-winning Brazilian flutist brings his radiant energy, joie de vivre and masterful musicianship to his brand new classic album, “Lux Æterna” (Latin, ‘Eternal Light’), via Cri du Chat Disques/ Universal Music.
On his new album, Strauss draws inspiration from four different 20th century composers: Clint Mansell, Alfred Schnittcke, Arvo Pärt and Dimitri Cervo. From the first track to the last, Strauss uses his craft to deliver a beautiful message of hope and optimism – a message that feels particularly vital in today’s difficult times.
Work by flutist Esteban Eitler is rescued on record
57 years after his death, Esteban Eitler will have his first CD released. One of the greatest flutists, composers and poets of the early 20th century, his work is now recovered, as part of the Conexões Latinas-Reviving Esteban Eitler project.
Pernambuco native James Strauss, instrumentalist, musicologist and curator of the project, dedicated himself to the musical direction of this first album, with nine compositions defined based on scores and historical documents left by Eitler, under the custody of the artist’s children.
The connection with Venezuela lies not in the music, but in the circumstances of the recording in Caracas. There is little secret about these desperate times for the people of Venezuela, though some outside the country still seem unaware of the appalling nature of life in the Chávez-Maduro years. What should be an oil-rich nation has seen hyperinflation, shortages and widespread malnutrition: in several recent years it has topped the world misery index. OMM and the Brazilian flautist, James Strauss, are to be congratulated in showing support for the people by making this recording in Caracas.
